No. The Working Grip Foundation’s membership and programs are open worldwide. We serve the international working-dog and protection-sport community, including trainers, handlers, and decoys across all recognized disciplines.
While all grants are issued in U.S. currency, international members receive the same eligibility and support as U.S. members, and payments can be processed electronically when needed.
The Working Grip Foundation proudly accepts members from all different protection sports, working-dog programs, and protection training disciplines—including decoys, handlers, trainers, and supporters from anywhere in the world.
Our membership is open to anyone who shares our mission of supporting the people and dogs at the heart of protection and working-dog culture. Whether you train for sport, service, or law enforcement, you’re welcome to join and receive the same access to programs, benefits, and grant opportunities.

Data is processed in the United States and safeguarded with reasonable administrative, technical, and physical measures. Records are retained in accordance with current law and IRS regulations.

We follow written policies for budgeting, approvals, dual-signature/payment thresholds, recordkeeping, and periodic reporting to the Board. These controls help ensure donations and dues are used responsibly and transparently.
Directors and officers do not receive compensation for serving in those roles. Reasonable, pre-approved expenses may be reimbursed when incurred on behalf of the Foundation.
We’re governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We may also consult a non-voting Advisory Council of subject-matter experts to support outreach and program quality.
Gifts support our hardship and injury-recovery mission, including grants, crisis-relief disbursements when applicable, and program operations. We maintain responsible financial controls and comply with nonprofit reporting rules.
As a general rule, donations are non-refundable. Limited exceptions may apply in cases of error, unauthorized transactions, or if a restricted gift is declined before deposit.
Absolutely. We accept anonymous gifts and will honor anonymity preferences to the extent permitted by law and our auditors.
Yes. Donations to The Working Grip Foundation are generally tax-deductible in the U.S. to the extent allowed by law, and we’ll provide an acknowledgment for your records.
For major incidents, the Board may initiate a Named Crisis-Relief Fund so the community can contribute toward needs that exceed the standard grant cap. These funds are created by the Board (not by applicants or families) when a significant incident and earmarked support warrant a dedicated campaign. When a Crisis-Relief Fund is active, assistance can exceed the normal $3,000 cap. After the Board closes the fund and a short tail period passes, any unused balance rolls into the general hardship fund for future needs.
Fill out the Foundation’s grant application and submit it with your supporting documentation for the review/approval process. If you have questions while gathering documents, email info@workinggrip.org.
Typical expenses include out-of-pocket medical or veterinary bills related to a covered incident. We may request invoices, an incident narrative, and other supporting requested documentation during review.
Members in good standing at the time of the incident, including:
- Decoys injured during training or competition.
- Handlers with a Dog Membership for the injured personal dog (training/competition injuries).
- Police K-9 Teams (certified handler + nationally certified K-9) injured during training, certification, or competition activities.
Grants are not insurance. Awards are discretionary and approved by Board vote based on documentation and available funds. We strive to review—and when approved—distribute grants within about two weeks of a complete submission to help ease immediate burdens.
Membership dues are non-refundable. Memberships are not transferable and cannot be shared. Dog memberships may be transferred with the dog in the event the dog is sold or re-homed. You must contact us directly at info@workinggrip.org for instructions on how to transfer a dog membership to a new owner.
A Dog Membership makes a specific personal dog eligible for assistance if injured during training or sport competition. Each dog needs its own Dog Membership to qualify.
Eligibility is tied to the law-enforcement handler and whichever K-9 the handler is nationally certified with at the time of injury. If the handler changes dogs (retirement, reassignment, etc.), eligibility continues as long as the handler and new K-9 are certified before the incident. Hardship grants for Police K-9 Teams cover training, certification, or competition-related injuries only—not on-duty deployment injuries or other non-training incidents.
Yes—memberships are set to auto-renew annually. Members can cancel the auto renew at any time from their accounts dashboard. If a membership lapses for any reason, there is no grace period. Eligibility for grants requires an active membership at the time of injury or hardship. If it isn’t active when the incident occurs, that incident isn’t eligible.

- Police K-9 Team Membership – for a certified law-enforcement handler and their nationally certified K-9 partner during training, certification, or competition activities.
We’re a nonprofit created by and for the working-dog community. We provide hardship and injury-recovery grants to decoys, handlers, trainers, and working dogs injured during training, certification, or sport competition. Our goal is simple: no one who gives their time and strength to this work should face hardship alone.
